Once again the west coast has a dome of high pressure over the entire region.
For the San Francisco Bay Area this dome of upper-level high pressure at ≈ 18,000 ft. has:
1. Crushed the marine layer to a patchy thin layer of fog.
2. Compacted all the smoke down to near the surface.
3. Created very hot conditions even near the coast.
4. Caused the Central Valley thermal low to expand way over the coast.
5. This low pressure has promoted dry hot NNE wind just aloft
For Southern California the effects are quite similar as the high pressure aloft:
1. Crushed the marine layer.
2. Compacted all the haze down to near the surface.
3. Created very hot conditions even near the coast.
4. Caused the thermal low to expand way over Southern California Bight.
5. High pressure in the Great Basin is causing mild NE winds over the coast.
